Laying an Underfloor Mat

STEELKER tiles show their best qualities when laid in a floating set. In order to make the setting more easy and quick, we advise to cover the old floor with a self-adhesive mat. The adhesive, present only on the upper side of the mat, enable an easy tile setting, while the mat gives acoustic insulation, waterproofing and, optionally, thermal insulation.

Laying on Self-Adhesive Polyethylene Mat

The Polyethylene Mat (polypropylene is also available) lets you set the tiles without traditional glue, keeping the floor floating from the underneath building. The adhesive, on the upper side of the mat, makes the tile setting extremely easy and forgiving: if you make a mistake, it is easy to detach and re-attach a tile. Ideal for do-it-yourself renovations, with the possibility to increase the value of the building thanks to the excellent acoustic insulation given by the combination of floating setting and the soft underlay mat.

Laying over Self-Adhesive Bituminous Mat

The polyester mat with SBS adhesive is characterized by an excellent mechanical strength and high thermal conductivity. Thus it is ideal for renovating without demolishing over an underfloor heating, or in high transit (commercial) premises.

Laying over Recycled Rubber Mat and Double Sided Adhesive Tape

The unparalleled mechanical strength of STEELKER makes it possible a truly economical tile setting. The underlay mat adhesive force has the sole utility of maintaining the tiles in a fixed position during the setting operations, easing the setting. This function can be, at its bare minimum, accomplished with the use of simple double-sided adhesive tape stripes, attached on a recycled rubber mat (or directly on the old floor!).

The Robinson Test

This Test is required by american standards (ASTM) and simulates the stresses experienced by a floor tile during its entire duration. STEELKER is the only tile which can brilliantly pass this test without glue and without concrete. For this reason it is suitable for floating set, dri-fit, do-it-yourself and wooden green building.
